The incumbent practices as an RN in the Portland VA Medical Centers Critical Care Unit (CCU) within the Inpatient and Emergency Services Division (IESD). The CCU is a medical, surgical and coronary care unit. Patient populations include, but are not limited to various medical conditions, such as cardiovascular, pulmonary GI conditions and postoperative care for all surgical sub-specialties provided at the medical center. The incumbent is expected to be able to provide all aspects of critical nursing care to the spectrum of patients seen in our unit including admission, transfer and discharge.
Although not a requirement, a prefered candidate will have previous Critical Care experience (2 years is desirable). ACLS will be required upon completion of new hire orientation.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Your salary and grade will be determined by the Nursing Professional Standards Board (NPSB). The NPSB is a peer review process. The NPSB will review your individual qualifications, education, professional training/internship(s) and professional experience to determine the most appropriate salary and grade based on your individual accomplishments.
1) Citizen of the United States.
2) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
3) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
4) Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
5) Must be an employee already currently assigned to IESD
6) Selectee is reassigned and not boarded to a different grade/step.

This position will be filled on a full-time permanent basis. Upon completing any required probationary period, the position will be permanent.
This position is in the Excepted Service and does not confer competitive status.
