Conditions of Employment:
Within 30 days after hire, you are required to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association. It is highly desirable that this certification is obtained prior to employment.

Qualifications:
(1) Citizen or national of the United States
(2) English Language Proficiency: If you are appointed to a direct patient care position, you must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402 (d) and 7407 (d).
(3) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.
(4) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
(5) Applicants must possess one of the following degrees in nursing to be consider for this position. Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing; or Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing and bachelors degree in a related field; or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; or enrolled in a Bridge or Master's Entry Program to Nursing (MEPN) program AND have received a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the National Certification Licensing Examination (NCLEX) and can submit this certification to the Department of Veterans Affairs; or Master's Degree in Nursing or related field with a BNS or bachelor's degree in a related field; or Doctoral Degree in Nursing.
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.
